Who you are matters- WRIT340
Hi everyone, my name is Winston and my astrological signs are Capricorn, Taurus, and Aries. I’m from a town in the Bay Area called Morgan Hill, which is about 20 miles south of San Jose. Although I’m likely to remain in the Bay Area after graduation, I do really like here in Los Angeles. If I were not from the Bay Area and did not have close relatives there I would probably choose to live in Los Angeles. Whether it is the palm trees or the weather, there is just something about the atmosphere here that I enjoy. Either way both of these cities have a very high cost of living, so in order to afford it I plan on hopefully acquiring a high paying job in real estate.
While I have lived in Morgan Hill for a majority of my life, I was actually born in Santa Cruz, California, which sits on the central coastline of the state. Santa Cruz is known for its beaches, surfing, and cool climate. Maybe being born near the ocean is part of the reason I have an admiration for sea turtles. Their cool, laid back nature is something that I can relate to, as I too possess a laid back personality. I also tend to be a more introverted person, which is a trait that is very different from my parents, specifically my Dad, who is much more extroverted. However, my parents and I are a lot alike, most noticeably in our interests. We share a passion for sports, movies/tv, music, business, news, and more. Something that I appreciate about my parents is that they never pushed their expectations on me, and are very loving and supportive no matter what. This has led to me being pretty self motivated towards the goals that I set for myself, to which I generally operate under my own expectations. However, I would be lying to say that the opinions of others don’t sometimes affect my thought processes.
The only time I can remember my parents trying to force me to do something was when they wanted me to water ski. My Dad took me out for a lesson where I could not for the life of me figure out how to get the hang of it. I much prefer snow skiing, and I remember being a kid going down the slopes in Tahoe and slowly working my way through the trees.
I would say that my parents are the people that I look up to the most, but someone who serves as a role model to me that is not a relative is the boxer Muhammad Ali. Not only for the greatest he displayed in the ring but for how he fought for what he believed in, no matter the consequences. Even when that meant being stripped of his titles and losing 4 years of his prime when his opposition to the Vietnam War resulted in a draft evasion charge.
Hi Winston,
ReplyDeleteIt is awesome to hear about your passion for sports and Los Angeles. I completely agree with how cool Muhammad Ali is, a true warrior in the ring and great person outside of it. I wish you the best of luck in attaining that big paying job in Real Estate!
Hi Winston,
ReplyDeleteIts interesting you say there's an energy Los Angeles gives off making you consider moving hear. You're not the only person I've heard that from. I have a friend from Jordan who says the same thing. He loves it in Jordan but something about the combination of the weather, atmosphere, vibe, and overall scenery of Los Angeles to where he is highly considering fully moving here. Yes the Bay Area and Los Angeles are notorious for high living costs but there has to be a way to find something affordable. I speaking for myself as well haha. Overall I had a great time reading your post and cant wait to hear from you further into the semester.
Hi Winston! I would love to get to know why you are interested in real estate because I am also looking into pursuing a career in that industry! I am jealous that you were born near the ocean in Santa Cruz because I have always wondered how my life would have been if I had grown up going to the beach every weekend. I am from New York City and probably go to the beach maybe once a year... they definitely do not compare to the beaches in California!
ReplyDeleteHi Winston, I agree with your idea that parents should never interfere with children's interests and ideas of learning and some life choices. It is crucial though to give them some guidance during their childhood but definitely just based on the suggestion and advice. Otherwise manipulation on kids will take a toll on their mental health.
